BriSBRA = British SoapBox Racing
When I first started entering soapbox events back in 2016 the goto source of information was the Scottish Carties website. This was a mine of knowledge but you had to dig it out. The user interface was clunky to say the least, mainly due to the underlying platform of a bulletin board. Also updates to the race calendar were sporadic and not comprehensive. By 2018 it seem to me that a replacement was called for.
The domains brisbra.com and brisbra.co.uk were registered in 2019 and the first version of the site launched in 2020 as an experiment on a free hosting server (Hostinger). After two years the site was to moved to a paid service (Fasthosts) which greatly improved availability and speed. However, the Fasthosts charges had risen to an unacceptable level by 2024 and a transfer to a nearly free AWS service was implemented.
The move to AWS S3 necessitated a significant rewrite of the code but the user experience remains largely the same. That interface is deliberately functional to the extent it may look austere to some. The reason is two fold: I have very little understanding of graphic design and the amount of code is kept to the barest minimum. No frameworks here, just pure html and css with a little vanilla javascript.
